Six Sigma Black Belt Responsibilities


A six Sigma Black belt is considered as the captain of the Project and is responsible for the smooth running of the project. He has to ensure the success of the project by selecting the right team, taking up the right topic for the project, Coordinate with the top management, other departments and select the right tools for the project.
The Six Sigma Black Belt should be having in depth understanding of the business and business processes operating in the organization. For this he should engage functional and departmental heads so that he has first hand experience of the overall business.
A six Sigma Black Belt will always be on the lookout for opportunities that that will have a positive and significant impact on the business. A six Sigma Black Belt is expected to identify the pain areas of the organization and should take up the responsibility of either tackling it himself or through other resources in his team.
A six Sigma Black Belt will take on himself to proactively identify and make an action plan for the pain areas of their management after discussing it with the management the strategy has to be implemented and the results have to measured in terms of reduced costs and enhanced revenues that will surely go well down with the top Management.
Communication is of utmost importance in any change initiative and a six sigma project will involve drastic changes; thus the leader will have to see to it that he gives his message loud and clear. If the communication is not clear nor matter how well a plan or strategy is built the execution part is going to be a big blunder.
Data analysis forms an integral part of any six sigma project and a six sigma black belt apart from being an expert in the data analysis should be able to make the top management and anyone including the auditors understand the significance of the graphs and the results that have been achieved in a fixed time period.
A Six Sigma Black Belt has to ensure the complete engagement of the top management in his projects. The CEO, CFO and the Directors of the organization have to be involved in one way or the other. This can be achieved either by discussing the areas of improvement with them on a regular basis or by involving them directly as reviewers, champions or sponsors for the projects running under the umbrella of Six Sigma.
